RECIPE: Morrocan Lunch Bowl



Some of you may ask you know what happened to me, since I am posting a savoury recipe today. I know I know, strange or! It is funny because I am cooking behind the scenes every day for myself and actually not the same recipes over and over again, because I like to try out new things, but for some reason I decided not to share the recipes on my blog. I do not know why until today! I think I am going to start sharing more of my savoury meals with you. Maybe some of you search for inspiration, others may like the pictures and of course it would make me extremely happy if you try my recipes and share some pictures with me (you can tag me on Instagram @sophisticase, then I can easily look them up!).

The lunch bowl you see on the pictures is my favourite meal in the whole wide world, which makes it the perfect dish to start my new savoury life on the blog with it. My mum always used to cook this for me on special occasions (do not ask me why special occasions, I don´t know it was just our tradition) ad I was always so excited for it. It is just so delicious! My mum said that it was Turkish, but I found some quite similar dishes in Moroccan cookbooks, so I guess it is Moroccan inspired. Nevertheless it is my mums recipe and I am happy to share it with you.


You will need for 2 persons:

  • 2 big potatoes
  • 1 onion
  • 170g minced meat (you can also do a vegetarian version)
  • 1 red pepper
  • 1 can tomatoes chopped with pieces
  • a pinch of paprika, curry, cumin, garlic, salt and pepper
  • Some feta cheese or if you are doing the vegetarian option I would recommend some Haloumi

Take a pan and put in some olive oil, heat it up. Chop your potatoes in 1 cm big pieces and put them in the hot pan. Fry the until they are golden. Reduce the heat and add the mince meat and the spices. Whilst the meat is frying, chop all your vegetables in small pieces. Once the meat is nearly done, add them and let everything fry for a couple more minutes. Add the chopped tomatoes and let everything cook for 20 minutes. Don’t forget to stir once in a while! Check if your potatoes are done! If thy are done add the feta and wait till it starts to melt a little bit! Then you are ready to serve! Bon appetit!
