HOTEL REVIEW: Motel One “Staatsoper” Vienna

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAToday I am launching a new category on my blog: Hotel Reviews. I love reading them on other blogs, because I think they tell you more about a hotel, than the usually five star rating on google. I don´t stay at hotels as much as others do, but maybe I can help a few of you with my few reviews. I hope you enjoy these posts as much as I do writing them.

Two weeks ago my mum and I spent two and a half days in Vienna. As we didn´t intend to spent hours and hours at the hotel, we decided to go for an affordable option, which is located right in the heart of the city, so we can do most things by feet. After some research we decided to go for the “Motel One”, right behind the opera. The first thing which was absolutely incredible was, that there is a direct connection between the main train station and “Karlsplatz”, which is the nearest underground station to the Motel One. We arrived way before our room was ready, but we were able to leave the baggage at the hotel without a charge, so we didn´t have to carry it around.

What I liked about the Motel One:

  • The Motel One has the most beautiful hotel lobby I have ever seen in my life. The whole design is arranged around the theme of ballet, which suits Vienna. White hall ways, a giant chandelier, some gold accents, some turqoise, some of the chairs had ballet shoes on and even the lamps had some kind of tutu around them. Just incredible beautiful!
  • We had no issues with the check-in or the room cards!
  • Altough you find yourself in the heart of the city, there is no noise in the night. I was really impressed how quiet it was!
  • The staff was very friendly and helpful!
  • The WiFi connection was really fast. I know this is not important for everyone, but for me it is, because altough I am mainly on vacancy, I upload pictures, or reply to emails, or write something and it takes just more time if the internet is slow af!
  • The breakfast and the bar in general. We didn´t book the breakfast in first place, but on the second day we decided to have breakfast at the hotel, which was no problem at all. The breakfast costs 9,50 Euros per person. I was really impressed. because the breakfast was very good. They had croissants, bread rolls, yoghurt, fruit, eggs, kinds of marmelades etc. Most of the things were even organic! Definitley thumbs up for that. Furthermore the bar was incredible too. Each week they have a gin of the week, which I can really recommand. And I also had the best “Hugo” of my life! Loooovvveeee!
  • The shampoo and the soap which was provided by the hotel. It looked really fancy, was organic and smelled incredible good!

What I didn´t like about the Motel One:

  • I had wished that there were no plastic cups in the bathroom, especially no broken ones. I know it is for safety reasons, but I just don´t like them.
  • The bed! This is a personal favour, but I hated the matresse there. It was really really soft and I had some serious back pain after sleeping there for two days, but this might be not the same for you!
  • I would have really appreciated it, if there were more opportunities for food in the bar at night. We had some drinks and I had a food craving and the only thing you can get is a toast, crisps or some nuts. I think there is room for improvement, maybe some potato wedges a slice of bread with butter and chive or something like that.

I would definitley recommand a stay at the “Motel One Staatsoper”, because for the price from 94,- for a double room, you won´t get anything better in the heart of the city. Whoever designed the hotel, he/ she created an experience. The whole design is so lovely, appealing and instagram-worthy, so that you really feel like princess. This hotel is definitley going to see me again!

If you want to have a traditional google Rating, I would give the “Motel One Staatsoper” a 4.7 out of 5.!
